"I probably wasn't paying attention"

Truer words couldn't be spoken. Today when I was talking to my friend,
she made the statement "I'm surprised I haven't seen you around town.
Then again, I probably wasn't paying attention." We were talking about
the fact that I get out around town as Heather on a regular basis.

This just proves what I have been saying about passing for quite a long
time now. Some of us pass 100%, for the other 99.9% of us, there are all
kinds of telltale signs that give us away. Yet, at the same time, even
those of us that don't necessarily look totally guyish or girlish still
pass pretty well. The reason that we pass is because the vast majority
of people out there are so absorbed in their world that they don't
really pay attention to what is going on around them. If they actually
payed attention they would see that I am a guy dressed as a woman, yet I
would say that I pass 90% of the time. Why? Because "I probably wasn't
paying attention." 9% of the time the people see me for what i am, yet
at the same time I get Maam'ed or smiled at or a knowing nod from them.
The majority of those that do read us either don't really care or are
impressed with the fact that we are going to such an effort to present
as the opposite gender. They accept us for who we are and treat us as we
are presenting. This is what passing really is all about.

Another thing that really caught my attention was when she mentioned her
father's reaction to me at the birthday party. He wasn't exactly OK with
me or the way I was dressed that day. She told me "He'll just have to
learn to deal with it." I don't care what anyone else says.. This is the
statement of someone who is truly open minded, and in my eyes a true
friend.

To my friend, you know who you are. Thank you for being you and
accepting me for being me.

I got my eyebrows waxed today!

Remember th friend from a few weeks ago? Well, today I went to her house
after my nail appointment and let her wax and reshape my eyebrows. I
think they look great! They have a bit of a feminine shape to them
without the typical high feminine arch that most women seem to go for.
Ill put some pics up on the site once I get some new ones to show them
off. This was also the first time my friend met Heather. It is great to
be totally accepted for who you are by someone. We chatted for a bit
while she did my eyebrows and afterwards I was telling her about how I
do my makeup. She was genuinely curious as to how I covered the beard
shadow so well.

way cool, send a card to troops free

Something cool that Xerox is doing

If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them
...

Old school friends

Well, I contacted an old HS friend through myspace yesterday. She
already knew about me through my other friends and its no big deal to
her (Hmm, seeing a pattern here?). Those who grew up in the 70's and
after seem so accepting of Heather. I think it is great.

Hot or not....

Well I decided to post a photo on hotornot.com just for the hell of it.
So far after 193 votes I rate a 7.8. Not too bad for a crossdresser
posting a photo on a site that only allows for male or female. I have a
link on my home page if you want to see for yourself. :) Its actually
kind of fun really seeing the rating and votes.

Support group update

Well, It's been a week since the meeting with the UCC church. I'm still
waiting to see what the verdict is, but I am hopeful.

Another day out

Nothing extravagant today, but I figured I would share nonetheless. I
did something a little different today, I asked my wife if she minded me
having a Heather day. Normally I just let her know or just get changed
(not that it particularly bothers her anyway). I just thought that it
would be nice to ask her opinion first for a change. I dressed pretty
casual - brown tye-dye cotton top with tan camisole, jeans, brown boots.
We were going shopping at BJ's so I didn't want to overdress. We went
and stopped at Best Buy on the way and browsed some TVS. After that we
spent a few hours shopping at BJ's. I didn't notice any reactions to me
at either place. I was just another customer.

just another day out

Well it looks like I'm headed out to lunch with my wife & daughter. My
wife is definitely getting much more comfortable being out with Heather
than in the past. This is a good thing. I'm wearing a knee length denim
skirt, brown knit top, stockings & white calf boots, looks good :)

Acceptance or passing.. you decide

OK, so I went to get my nails done today (even though I'm still getting
over a major flu, gotta have your priorities straight). I dressed in my
typical manner, black pullover sweater, long black skirt slit to the
knee, black tights, black knee boots, leather jacket. When I got to the
salon at about 10 (they open at 10 and I like to get there when they
open) there were a few ladies standing outside waiting on the salon to
open (they were running late). I walked up to the salon and joined the
ladies standing outside. As women will do, they were chatting about the
late opening. One asked me if I was a regular and I told them that I
was. We talked for a bit (they opened 15 minutes late) and I had no
indication of being read from the ladies. When we got inside the manager
starting divvying the work up among the employees and one lady that was
there before me got a bit miffed because they took me before her. She
said something like "I was here before this lady (referring to me) so
why are you dealing with her first?" After we cleared it up and she got
her manicure, she chatted and referred to me as a woman all the time and
even apologized for getting so pissy.

Another patron who was there before opening leaned over from where she
was getting her nails done and asked my if [someone] was my sister. I
told her that [someone] was not my sister and she informed me that I
looked just like [someone]. She gave me a warm smile, but it didn't
strike me as a knowing smile.

After I was done getting my nails done and was heading for my coat, 2
ladies that had arrived after us stopped me and asked if they could
check out my nails. They had been told that I was getting gels and were
curious as to how they looked. I let them admire my nails and told them
a few key differences between the acrylics & gels (They loved how
natural mine looked).

So, did I pass or was I accepted? Is there really a difference?

The Man Purse put to the test

OK so I found a smallish plain brown (Liz Claiborne) purse to carry in
guy mode. This is one of the ones that has a real long strap on it and
no metal except the gold rings attaching the strap to the bag and a flap
over the top with magnetic catch. I have been carrying it around for
about a week now slung across my chest and no bad looks or comments that
I have noticed. Last night I went with my wife to get our hair cut and
she saw me carry it for the first time. This morning she said "By the
way, love the man purse". Now that is true love! Love you baby!
