Today after getting my allergy shot I stopped at Home Depot for some
lumber I needed for a project. I grabbed a lumber cart and went off to
get what I needed. As I was on my way to the check put I had a number of
employees ask me if I needed help finding anything. At the register, the
girl asked if I needed any help with the lumber. Now, we're talking 8
1x2's and 3 1x4's... Not exactly heavy lumber by any standard. My 7 year
old could handle these boards. Of course, if I had been in Joe mode, I
bet not one of those offers of help would have been made. Why is it that
people automatically assume a woman is weak and needs help?
